India’s PNG network is going digital. Learn how consumers can apply, upload documents, track payments and monitor installation and connection activation online.
New Delhi: India’s City Gas Distribution (CGD) network is increasingly combining clean-energy expansion with digital convenience, enabling consumers to apply for domestic Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connections and track the entire process online.
Consumers can apply for a PNG connection using their mobile phone after completing OTP verification. They can upload the required documents digitally and track key stages of the application, including application status, updates, payment, installation and connection activation, through online platforms.
The digital process is aimed at making PNG access more transparent and convenient while reducing the need for repeated physical visits during the connection process.
CGD network expands across India
India’s City Gas Distribution network is expanding the availability of natural gas to households, industries and the transport sector. As of September 2026, the network covers 309 Geographical Areas (GAs) through 40 gas operators.
According to the latest figures, infrastructure has been developed to provide around 1.79 crore domestic PNG connections, while PNG supply has already commenced in approximately 1.22 crore households.
The expansion of the CGD network is part of India’s broader effort to increase the use of cleaner gaseous fuels and develop a wider natural gas-based energy ecosystem.
From pipeline connectivity to digital connectivity
The growth of PNG is no longer limited to laying pipelines and connecting households. The consumer journey itself is becoming increasingly digital.
From OTP-based registration and document submission to payment, installation and final connection activation, consumers can track multiple stages of the process online.
This digital approach can provide consumers with greater visibility into their applications and make the process easier to monitor.
Clean energy at the doorstep
PNG offers households a piped alternative to conventional cooking fuels, while the wider CGD network also supports natural gas use in industries and transportation.
With nearly 1.22 crore households already receiving PNG supply and infrastructure available for another significant expansion, the combination of physical gas infrastructure and digital consumer services is emerging as an important part of India’s clean-energy transition.
In India, PNG is no longer just travelling through pipelines to homes—the entire journey from application to activation is increasingly moving online.
