Ministry of Power begins Special Campaign 6 from September 15, 2026, focusing on e-waste collection, segregation, disposal, cleanliness and reducing government pendency.
New Delhi: The Ministry of Power (MoP) has launched the preparatory phase of Special Campaign 6 with a renewed focus on Swachhata, effective e-waste management and the reduction of pending matters in government offices.
The campaign is being undertaken by the Ministry of Power along with its subordinate and attached offices, autonomous bodies and Central Public Sector Undertakings (CPSUs). The initiative is part of the Government’s continuing efforts, undertaken since 2021, to institutionalize cleanliness and improve efficiency by reducing pendency in government offices.
A key focus of Special Campaign 6 will be the effective collection, segregation and disposal of e-waste in accordance with the E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2022. The rules were notified by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change on November 2, 2022, and came into force from April 1, 2023.
The campaign will also focus on clearing pending matters related to MPs’ references, references received from State Governments, inter-Ministerial communications, Parliamentary Assurances, PMO references, Public Grievances and PG Appeals through CPGRAMS.
Preparatory Phase Underway
The Preparatory Phase of Special Campaign 6 began on September 15, 2026, and will continue until September 30, 2026.
During this phase, the Ministry of Power and its associated organisations will identify pending matters against selected parameters and prepare action plans for the implementation phase.
The activities will include:
- Identification of pending cases and references
- Mobilisation of ground-level functionaries
- Finalisation of cleanliness campaign sites
- Review of official records
- Space management planning
- Identification of scrap material for disposal
- Planning for collection, segregation and disposal of e-waste
Nodal officers have already been nominated in CPSUs and other organisations under the Ministry of Power to coordinate the campaign.
Implementation Phase From October 2
The Implementation Phase of Special Campaign 6 will run from October 2 to October 31, 2026.
During this period, the participating organisations will work towards achieving the targets identified during the preparatory phase, with particular emphasis on cleanliness, disposal of unwanted material, e-waste management and reduction of administrative pendency.
The emphasis on e-waste management is significant as the E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2022 provide the regulatory framework for manufacturers, producers, refurbishers, dismantlers and recyclers involved in electrical and electronic equipment and e-waste management.
The campaign is therefore expected to combine cleaner government workplaces with more systematic disposal of electronic waste and faster resolution of pending administrative matters.
Why E-Waste Management Matters
Electronic equipment such as computers, monitors, printers, electrical components and other electronic devices can become e-waste at the end of their useful life. The 2022 rules replaced the earlier 2016 framework and established a broader regulatory structure for e-waste management.
For the Ministry of Power and its extensive network of offices and public-sector organisations, systematic identification and disposal of obsolete electronic equipment can also contribute to better utilisation of office space and improved record and asset management.
